In Washington, these funds are administered through Aging and Long-Term Care (ALTC), and the place to start is your local Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), which can tell you whether you qualify. If you do, you are assigned a case manager who can help you gather bids from approved contractors, Peak Pro among them, and coordinate the project, often at little or no out-of-pocket cost. Veterans may also be eligible for the VA's HISA grant or related programs. Each program has its own rules and can have a waitlist, so it is worth asking early, and we can point you toward the right local resources.

Is it really cheaper to modify a home than to move to assisted living?

Often, over time, yes. A one-time renovation is a fixed cost that keeps working, while assisted living is a recurring monthly bill. How quickly can you make a home safe for someone coming home from the hospital or a nursing facility?

It depends on the products involved. Grab bars and many ramps can go in quickly, often within days. Stair lifts and accessible showers take a little longer, since equipment has to be ordered and, for showers, a licensed plumber is scheduled.
